Thanks for visiting my blog! :) I am a young vintage-lover and I blog about things I make, wear, andlike. You can find me in S. Cal where the weather is hot, and I knit like a fiend for the 5 weeks a yearwhen it's sort of cold. You can read more about me here.
I'm pretty proud of myself. They are so comfy and are almost perfect. Except they are too small. This is the second pair of slippers/flats that I've made, and the first pair was small, too. You would think I would learn my lesson. The outer is corduroy recycled from that dress above, the lining is some brown cotton scraps I had left over from an old project, and the insoles and outsoles are from an old pair of jeans. Anyway, I plan on making more. I want to perfect them and have a closet full of handmade flats! I also am trying to think of a way to add soles.
I'll show you the first pair that I made sometime soon. :)
Whew! This day has been kind of crazy, but I was determined to post, so here's my post. :)
First up: A small haul from Charlotte Russe! I ordered online because they had a pretty awesome sale. These shirts were 2 bucks each, so I grabbed a couple: They are a little big, so I might take them in. Maybe.
I also got 2 skirts and a pair of shorts ($5 each!). The skirts are perfect, but the shorts are too big. They are surprisingly gigantic for a size 2. I will definitely have to take them in. Next: I got a pair of combat boots from Gojane.com! So excited. They are super cute and fit me perfectly. I was a little concerned because I couldn't try them on, but I just went for it and ordered size 6. They were only $17! Right after I finish up this post, I will move on to listing these little beauties: If you are interested, check out my etsy shop!
Finally, here's a before picture of that big corduroy dress I told you about in my last thrifty Thursdays post. I'm restyling it tonight. Fun, fun fun. :)
P.S. You might recognize the boots and the green skirt. I wore them together and posted a picture a couple of days ago.
I have a goal to try and finish up all of my works-in-progress in the next 2 months. After they are all finished, I have a fun blog series that I will start. Can't wait. My first project is this scarf. I started it about a month and half ago. It's made out of variegated pink acrylic yarn and I started it to have something to knit while watching movies. I obviously haven't watched very many movies.
This is a project I started for my dad about a week ago. It's a crocheted beanie made out of malabrigo. LOVE that yarn. it's so super soft.
This is a project that I started and finished in a day, so it doesn't really belong in this post, but oh well. It's a pair of leggings made out of an XXXL t-shirt. :)
I will try to post weekly about my progress with the WIPs. I have a gigantic box overflowing with projects, so this might take a while. Hopefully less than 2 months.
Just like I promised, here's a tutorial to make your very own pair of recycled leggings. :)
1. Find a men's XXXL t-shirt in a color you like. These are kind of rare, but I've had good luck and found a gray one and a blue one. Just keep your eyes open and eventually you will find the perfect shirt. 2. Place your favorite pair of leggings on the shirt and trace (See dotted line in photo below). Don't forget to add a 1/4 in. seam! Line up the leg openings with the edge of the t-shirt and you won't have to hem them! 3. Cut out. 4. Repeat 2 and 3 until you have 4 pieces. 5. Lay 2 pieces on top of each other outsides facing in. Make sure they match up. 6. Sew along the straight edge. 7. Sew the other side until the part where it starts to curve in.
Confused? Look at this diagram:
Match up the edges
Sew the straight edge
Sew the other side until it begins to curve in.
8. Repeat steps 5-7 for the other pieces. Now you should have 2 leg pieces ready to be sewed together! 9. Put the 2 leg pieces next to each other and sew the seams indicated in the second picture. Sew red to red and blue to blue. This is the hardest part.
10. Hem the top (or just leave it, that's what I did) & enjoy! P.S. This is my first sewing tutorial, please let me know how I did. :)
Elsie at A Beautiful Mess and Rachel at Smile and Wave are the master minds behind this wonderful project. Basically, the goal is to create a project from old, unwanted clothing every week. Click the yellow button above to learn more about Project ReStyle!
My first project is one I've already mentioned. Remember, I picked up an XXXL t-shirt at the thrift store and turned it into a pair of leggings? Oh right, I didn't have a picture! ;) Here's one:I have to be honest, I surprised myself! They came out really good. What do you think? Here's a before picture:I also bought a red t-shirt and tailored it to fit me. The shirt has such a soft, slubby texture that I just had to have it. :) It's the shirt I'm wearing in this photo: I also wanted to show you my current spinning project. I'm plying it now: Stay tuned, I'll be sharing a tutorial for the t-shirt turned leggings tomorrow! Edit (Link) Also coming up: -My current crochet/knit project -Another pair of leggings I made (blue this time!) -Some new jewelry
I let myself get away with not posting. But let's not dwell on that, I'm posting now. We went thrift store shopping on Wednesday, and I bought 2 men's XL t-shirts with the sole purpose of making leggings out of them. One of them turned out too small to do that, so I just turned that one into a smaller t-shirt using one of my favorites as a pattern.
It's been very cold, and it rained on Wednesday. Last night is was really, really windy.
I dyed wool for some kits I sold. I wish I had taken photos, but I always forget too.
Some jewelry-making supplies arrived at my doorstep today, so I will be making necklaces and listing them tomorrow. Maybe when I have my camera out I will remember to take pictures of the leggings and shirt I made.
Alright, I think I will go spin some yarn now. I will take pictures of it and show you tomorrow. :) Happy New Years!
