Current Projects: Socks and more yarn!

After finishing the hat and yellow/blue yarn, it was time to move on to the next works-in-progress. I dived into my big box of unfinished projects, and came up with these two:
After I finished the first pair of these socks, I just stopped working on them. So yesterday I cast on for the second sock and I am halfway done with the ribbing. They are the Swedish Fish Socks.

Next, I found this gray bamboo and pink mohair yarn. It's definitely an interesting combo.
When I first started this project, I didn't have a spinning wheel and I was spinning it with a spindle. So when I picked it up again, I transferred it to my wheel and I'm 3/4 of the way done with it now.

Come back tomorrow! I will be talking about lip balm and shoes. (Surprise, surprise!)

Thrifting finds on a Sunday...

...instead of the normal "Thrifty Thursday."
The reason? Because I just haven't had time to post until right now.
Also, to those of you who were interested in the necklaces I posted about a week ago- they are finally available in the shop!

When I went thrift store shopping, I found 2 skirts for myself, and a bunch of items for making shoes/leggings. :)
This skirt is vintage, and it's fabulous. It was $0.75! I wore it last week, but I forgot to take pictures. :(

This pencil skirt isn't vintage, but it's made out of a nice linen-like fabric and looks great with a belt. And it fits me perfectly!

I'm going to use the items above to make shoes. I've worn my other pairs a lot and they are so comfortable! I need more.
The leather skirt is made out of a thick, black suede and I am going to use it for soles. Although it might look good as an upper, too.
I'm not sure how the fake velvet will work, but it was really cheap, so I'll see how it goes.

To make up for the terrible photos above (it's raining and I had to take them indoors with flash), here's a pretty photo of my favorite snack: dried cranberries. Besides not being able to take photos outside, I love the rain. :)

More finished projects...

Sorry, I was MIA for a little while there.
But I have more projects done! Or, almost done.
I finished plying this yarn two days ago. It has a little bit of bamboo in it, so it has a nice sheen. Very pretty. I have no idea what I will knit with it, though. But that's okay- I'm trying to finish more projects then I start so I can get rid of the giant box of unfinished projects in my room.

This hat is almost done. I'm just researching for the perfect stretchy bind-off.
It's for my dad- I hope he likes it!

Wednesday Wishes: Tutorials

This is a list of awesome tutorials I've found, not things I am wishing for, but oh well. :)

I want to make macarons. Don't they look delicious??

This plywood to plank floor tutorial is awesome. Seriously.

How to make fruit leather. YUMMY.

How to make your own hand-bound journal. I'm thinking one with leather for a cover.

Crochet-covered rocks? Yes, please.

Hope you enjoyed these. :)

More shoes and necklaces

I've made more necklaces! This time, they feature cute vintage illustrations.
My personal favorite is the fox one...

If you are interested, they will be in the shop soon!

Here are two more pairs of shoes that I made. The pair on the left I finished yesterday, and the pair on the right is the first pair I made (even before the corduroy ones).

I got the fabric for these in the remnant bin at Joann's. They fit good, but the heel is not high enough and slips off all the time. I still haven't perfected the design, but the next pair, I think I will hit the nail on the head.

Ah, the first pair I made. A little tight, not lined, and the heel slips off, too.
But I think that yellow floral print makes up for it. I found the fabric at a yard sale for $0.50!

I also put some leather on the bottom of this pair, and so far, it's held up really well! These shoes are like a flat/moccasin combination. I think I'm going to put leather on the other two.

Happy Tuesday! :) I'm off to go read blogs and eat some popcorn.

A finished scarf, an outfit, and 7 things about me :)

Here's my finished scarf! It's extra wide and a little on the short side. It's kind of bright, but it works. Once it gets cold around here again, I'll try to incorporate it into an outfit. It's 80 degrees here! That's So Cal for you.

Here's what I wore today: Jeans were given to me by a friend, Keds and blouse were thrifted.

I'm going thrifting tomorrow, yay! I'm going to keep my eyes open for good shoe material: Velvet, corduroy, wool, canvas, and leather. I've also been thinking about using fabric stiffener-I might pick some up at Joann's. I've also been researching soling material.
Yeah, this is definitely my latest obsession.

On another note, I've been given the Stylish Blogger Award by 3 bloggers (Ashleigh, Breeanna, Anne). It's such an honor and I am so happy!

So, without further ado, here's 7 things about me, in no particular order:

  1. I want to make macarons.
  2. I first learned to knit when I was 8.
  3. I learned to crochet because I wanted to make amigurumi. (Google it.)
  4. I have an obsession with cookie dough ice cream.
  5. It takes me a very long time to fall asleep.
  6. I am constantly wanting to start new projects.
  7. I love thrifting and going to yard sales.
And the 9 bloggers that I want to award the Stylish Blogger Award too:
Sandy a la Mode
Lune Vintage
Oh, Mishka
I love you to the moon.
Miss P
Trains and Sewing Machines
Curating Cuteness
Talk2TheTrees
Cornflower Blue

I know it's supposed to be 15, but I'm running out of time, so this is it.

This Jane Austen-inspired print from kecky is amazing.

This little cottage... is just magical. Photo from here. Click to see more photos.

Thrifty Thursday: Garage sale finds!

I went to some garage sales last week and this is what I found. :)
I found all of these things at one sale. I didn't find anything at the other sales, and this was the last sale we stopped at, so I got lucky!

This monkey desk accessory is super awesome. I almost want to keep it for myself, but I don't have a desk. So on to the etsy shop it goes. Last month I found a key holder that also had Cedar Rapids, Iowa on it. So finding this was pretty cool.

I've always had an interest in geodes, but I've never seen any in real life, so when I saw this, I snatched it up. I'm keeping it because it's pretty and I love it. Maybe I will start a collection.

Now this miniature mouse and mouse trap just... make me squeal with joy. They are so tiny! And adorable! And now I want a doll house! Oh, restoring a vintage doll house would be so awesome.

Next I found this Kansas schoolbook. I wanted it, but when I looked inside the cover and saw this...
...I was sold. I could just imagine little Vernon L. Jones sitting in his seat in 1917 drawing men with hats and large chins inside his brand new schoolbook and driving his mom up the wall.

I also got this large vintage slip. Look at the lace and the flounce! Love it. But it won't fit me, so I'll be listing it on etsy soon.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading and commenting. I love you guys.
